I know that we all realize that the words we choose to use have a huge impact on those around us, but how often to we actually put this knowledge into practice.
Our choice of words effect the way we feel, the way we think and act. An example would be ” I have to do the groceries.” verses ” I get to do the groceries.” I know that this sounds so simple, but it is so very important in our day to day lives. The way we speak is often a habit and habits are not always that easy to break. We need to be living in the present moment and to be very aware of what is going on around us. Not just around us either but also within us. Are we hungry, tired, reacting to something someone else has said. (This one is huge) So often we speak from a reaction point of view instead of a thoughtful point of view.
Today when I was doing my morning quiet time I came across this bible verse that is applicable no matter what your beliefs or mindset may be. It is taken from the book of Proverbs, chapter 18, verse 21. In it it says, ” Words kill, words give life, they’re either poison or fruit-you choose.” I love this for many reasons. It reminds me how powerful my words are…there was a time I often spoke from a reaction point of view instead of a thoughtful point of view. This is something I am always working on.
It is not only what we say but who we are saying it to.
All of us deserve to be spoken to respectfully and patiently. Don’t get me wrong there are times and places where we have to be speaking in a more direct and even a stronger approach, however generally speaking imagine what the world would be like if we all just took a step back before we spoke. Not just to others, also with the voice in our heads. Here is to Happy Words in your Day, Ta ta for now,
